For release: Feb. 10, 2005 On Feb. 24 and March 17 Engineers, executives, educators and community leaders can learn more about continuous quality improvement at two free technology seminars offered by De Anza College’s Center for Applied Competitive Technologies. The programs will be held within the next several weeks in Conference Rooms A and B of the Hinson Campus Center at 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino. “Our series of workshops promote technology and manufacturing in this region and in California, one of the main goals of our economic outreach program,” said Bill Fu, CACT operations coordinator. “College instructors and high school teachers are encouraged to attend our series to keep up with the latest in technology and manufacturing, particularly if they teach business, computer science, manufacturing, technology, engineering or information technology.” “Lean Concepts and Application” on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Lean manufacturing methodology has helped thousands of companies worldwide to dramatically improve their operational performance and achieve significant improvement in their bottom line. Cost, quality, delivery, service, cash flow, inventories, service speed, or slow processes are all prime examples of where lean manufacturing can make a difference. This seminar introduces the lean manufacturing tools that focus on removing waste, improving quality, increasing speed and reducing inventories. “Experiential Learning: Enterprise Security” on Thursday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to noon — This program will provide an overview of new enterprise security courses offered at De Anza College, Foothill College and Carnegie Mellon University. It will address the importance of information technology security, security systems, IT training and practical approaches for businesses. The unique, story-centered curriculum will simulate complex problems facing companies today. CACT is a grant-funded, economic and workforce development initiative of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. The initiative was established in 1988 to advance California’s economic growth and global competitiveness. Seating for the seminars is subject to availability, and pre-registration is required. Call (408) 864-8710 for details about the two free seminars and other technology series workshops to be held through June. |
